History of Jaipur | Tourist attractions in Jaipur | Tour to Jaipur

Tour to Jaipur History of Jaipur has been entwined with the stories of royal princes and princesses, with grand Mughals and later with visiting dignitaries from the British Royal family or 20th century royalty like the US Presidential families. India tours and travel takes you on tour to Jaipur for an altogether new experience. In the year 1727 A.D., the great Kachhawah ruler Sawai Jai Singh II founded the historic city of Jaipur. The monarch was not only a great builder, but also a poet and an astronomer. Under his auspices, his talented architect Vidyadhar, who gave shape to the creative aspirations of Sawai Jai Singh in the form of the dream city of Jaipur, designed the city.

The rectangular shape of the pink city of Jaipur divides it into nine blocks on the basis of principles laid down in the"Shilpa Shastra", the ancient Indian treatise on architecture. Built on the pattern of a grid, the city has wide straight avenues, roads, streets, and lanes and uniform rows of shops on either side at the main bazaar, all arranged in nine rectangular city sectors. The Palace area and the city palace form important areas with the principal monuments of Jaipur. The city was a marvel of town planning with separate sectors being earmarked for craftsmen and merchants. A formidable protective wall with seven gates girdled the entire city. The city was planned to conform to a geometric grid representing the nine divisions of the universe.

On your travel to Jaipur you can see a reflection of the glorious past, which still has been preserved by the city. Rajputana is undoubtedly the one with the most martial record that has a warring section locked in deadly warfare and talks about thousands of royal ladies consigning themselves to flames preferring death to dishonor. In this land, towering forts were built as much for ostentation as for intimidating the enemy; and rulers who were great patrons of the arts fought desperate battles. The city of Jaipur is the prime example of the culture and traditions of this region.

Modern Jaipur plays host to all of them and to many thousands of ordinary people who come here enchanted by all that the city has to offer. The city of Jaipur is undoubtedly a city of kings and queens and its distinctive architecture clearly emphasizes this. Even so it has a timeless appeal, since many of the traditional crafts patronized by the 18th century rulers are still thriving. So, you have streets that are famous for jewellery, tie-and-dye, pottery, 'meenakari', leatherwork, and stone carvings.

Travel to Jaipur would take you the small villages, which surrounded the new city, and were later, incorporated within. The city of Jaipur divided itself into wide boulevards, flanked by stalls of equal size, forming seven rectangles called Mohallas.
