Bodhgaya visited by Buddhists from all over the world is linked to the story of the prince, who forsaking a royal, luxurious life, came in search of the truth only to find it under the Bodhi tree. Over 2500 years ago, Siddhartha, wandering in seach of a solution to human miseries, came to a peaceful, tiny village. There he sat under a ficus tree to meditate.
When he came out of his meditative trance, he became the Buddha or the Enlightened One. He had received divine knowledge which he gave to the world as the threefold way of human conduct today known the world over as Buddhism. Today, that little village of Bodhgaya is the pilgrimage centre for Buddhists.

There are a number of sights connected with Buddha and the important ones are the Bodhi Tree, the Mahabodhi Temple and the Lotus Tank
